Curator, writer and archivist/creative lead Tory Turk and founder James Hyman of HYMAG were asked to select a number of hoodies featured in fashion magazines, some of which will be on display in the exhibition. The same search resulted in a new dynamic digital timeline of hoodies that have appeared in the printed media over the past decades, and which has been launched in The Hoodie.
HYMAG, 'The World's Largest Collection of Magazines' (Guinness Record) - formerly the Hyman Archive - was founded in 2014 by James Hyman and is built on his life's passion for magazines and the popular press of days gone by. HYMAG is more than a collector's dream, it celebrates and credits the creator and the collector; protecting both the copyrights of rightsholders and the treasure troves of donators. 'The World's largest collection of magazines', once digitised and online, will legally liberate the content to become an unparalleled resource of the richest content on Earth.
"When James Hyman was a scriptwriter at MTV Europe, in the 1990s, before the rise of the internet, there was a practical -- as well as compulsive -- reason he amassed an enormous collection of magazines. James always had the foresight that this was going to be something else, more than just a sort of collector's dream....all about preserving and documenting the history of print." - The New York Times.
